The Golden Hills Marathon is a point-to-point race that starts at the Chabot Space and Science Center at 8 am sharp. Runners will be bussed from Cull Canyon Regional Park, starting at 7 am. Race Day check-in will open for the marathon at 5am at Cull Canyon. Come early and leave your apres run bags in the Maple Picnic Area, which is where the race finishes.
Bib pickup at Chabot Science Center is discouraged, but if you must, we’ll do our best to support you. Sign-in will be between 7:30 and the start at 8 am.
Please note, restrooms at the start are a 100 yard walk down into Redwood Bowl. We encourage you to go beforehand. There are bathrooms at Skyline Gate and along the first part of the course on Stream Trail as well.
The net elevation of the new course is 4,250 feet.
Map 1: Chabot to Skyline Gate to Big Bear/MacDonald Staging Area
The race starts at Chabot Space and Science Center and follows down West Ridge to Skyline Gate. There are bathrooms at Skyline Gate. Runners may wish to proceed directly through this busy station.
Runners will proceed down Stream Trail running into the lead runners from the Bay Ridge 100k and Firetrail 50 Mile. You’ll bounce up West Ridge, down onto Golden Spike out to aid at Big Bear/MacDonald Staging Area.

Map 2: Anthony Chabot and Lake Chabot Regional Parks
Runners will leave Big Bear and proceed to Bort Meadow Aid and then a few quick miles to Grass Valley Aid, all on fireroads. After Grass Valley runners will proceed to the Lake Chabot Marina.
On leaving Lake Chabot Marina, you’ll proceed out the East Shore Trail onto Ten Hills Trail and down Proctor. At Redwood Road, you’ll go hard left and enter the Brandon Trail at the back of the Golf Course parking lot.
NEW In 2019! Proceed up Brandon and take a hard right onto Willow View trail, a beautiful single-track trail we are adding this year. You’ll finish running under Redwood Road into Chabot Staging Aid.

Map 3: Cull Canyon Regional Park
On leaving Lake Chabot Staging Area, you’ll proceed through EBMUD land along the Bay Area Ridge Trail, up the most significant hill of the race. You’re on your way home!
At the top of the long hill, you’ll bear right, then left through a gate back into EB Regional Parks. You’ll run through the stable area to Bellhurst Lane. On leaving Bellhurst, you’ll continue a few quick miles on single track down the hill. You’ll finish by passing through the tunnel into Cull Canyon. Watch your head!
Once through the tunnel, you’ll bear soft right, up the short hill into the finish!
