3/14 UPDATE: Napa Valley 50k is now worth 3 UTMB points!
In the last few years more and more runners have developed an interest in the Ultra-Trail du Mont-Blanc (UTMB.) This group of events is really important and has captivated me for a number of years. I remember first hearing about it from Jeffery Rogers maybe 10 years ago when he started talking about running through the Mont-Blanc region and how he wanted to go because his wife could meet him in different mountain villages with wine and cheese. And they did it!
UTMB has been a big deal for a number of years. Maybe 10,000 people are involved every year. More. But it has only been in the last 5 or so that Americans have caught on. And now they really have. Last year, Todd Glieden, one of our Scena Ambassadors went and ran.
So, starting last year, we’ve been qualifying our events for UTMB points. Starting last year, both Dick Collins Firetrails and Skyline 50k offered points. 3 or 4 depending on the race. This is true again for 2019, when (watch this space) we’ll be adding points for Napa Valley 50k, as well.
This is a marquis event, the best of the sport and the international context for our support is well worth having. Find out more about the race here.
